Karen Bakula & Company, Inc. designs and implements creative promotional events to enhance a client’s image and achieve specific marketing and/or fundraising objectives.

1993 Japan American Conference of Mayors and Chamber of Commerce Presidents.  As chief coordinator of Sacrmento’s first international conference, the firm’s responsibilities included overall logistical and coordination services, international public/media relations and sponsorship acquisition.  The four day conference was attended by the highest level of government officials from Japan and the United States and included an array of public, business and social functions within the four county region.  National and international media exposure positioned the event and Sacramento as one of the most important economic development activities ever undertaken in the region.

The Civil War Experience/Gibson Ranch County Park
The largest historical Civil War Association in the Western United States comes together for a full-scale re-enactment in an annual California appearance.  From designing and implementing a cost-effective advertising plan to the development of a press kit and media relations campaign, the Bakula agency was responsible for producing concepts that increased attendance and event participation.  In the first year of this campaign, even attendance increased by 17% with single day food/beverage/goods sales increasing by 37%.

Hollywood Entertainment Museum
From groundbreaking, construction activity and grand opening celebration of Hollywood’s first museum documenting the past, present and future of the entertainment industry, this historic project was made possible by the Community Redevelopment Agency in the then newly designated Hollywood Boulevard Redevelopment Area.  The opening campaign, and subsequent marketing program continues to result in signification regional and international media visibility as the premier cultural affairs attraction in the Hollywood redevelopment area.

Paramount Pictures – Special Events
Event and media coordination of all special events of which the studio is affiliated including on and off site activities such as the Humanitarian of the Year Celebrity Awards Gala Honoring Paul and Linda McCartney; Legacy Awards Honoring The Entertainment Family – Rosemary Clooney, George Clooney, Nick Clooney and Miguel Ferrer; television and film premieres; and other activities designed to secure media attention for Paramount Pictures, its executives and stars as well as the Special Events team.

Nevada State Fair
Research and target audience demographics were studied, with a campaign tailored to the associated research.  The event campaign was based upon a trade and pro bono marketing strategy without the benefit of a budget.  An excess of $20,000 in advertising and publicity was garnered for the event annually, which has resulted in 15% overall attendance increases over the past several years.

City of Sacramento Department of Public Works – Cal/EPA Building Groundbreaking To Grand Opening Celebration
Coordination of the ceremonies associated with the landmark collaborative public/private partnership development project between Thomas Development and the City of Sacramento.  The project has resulted in a new, environmentally accurate statewide headquarters facility for the California Environmental Protection Agency in the heart of downtown Sacramento.

A series of special events within the Sacramento and Bay Area markets were coordinated in a comprehensive marketing campaign.  The campaign profiles the dramatic efforts made by physicians responsible for success in the vitro-fertilization process; state-of-the-art out-patient surgical procedures and the entire unique collection of medical resources available through the Medical Plaza.  The innovative hospital specifically focuses on surgical procedures for a more cost-effective, personalized patient care and recovery.

University of Southern California/Institute For Creative Technologies
Production of large scale events for U.S. government officials and the Hollywood entertainment community, among others, to showcase the technology produced by ICT.A $45 million joint venture project and facility, ICT brings together the U.S. Army, the University of Southern California and the entertainment industry in the design and implementation of an extraordinary convergence of virtual reality, artificial intelligence and humankind – modeling and simulation technologies to train American troops for 21st century missions.

A combined business and governmental community effort, the Bakula firm served as a consultant, copywriter, scriptwriter and publicist to each of Sacramento’s bids.The Bakula firm also created and implemented an innovative marketing campaign for the 1995 Championship event which resulted in the highest attended track and field event in the country (also considered unique because 1995 was considered a non-Olympic competition year).  Services included media relations, advertising, promotions, corporate partnerships and ticket sales campaigns that revolved around the celebration of the sport, rather than the traditional sport of track and field itself.
